Pandemic Pivot: Time for a Change of Pace

posted on July 4, 2021 by Charity

This past year was a pandemic roller coaster, filled with a few high-highs and a heaping helping of low-lows.

In February 2020 we were optimistic for a busy tourist season. We’d been streamlining processes and were planning for a busy summer. That’s when we first heard about an illness called the coronavirus. It seemed kind of important but no one was too concerned it would have a significant impact.

Suddenly, in March, the bottom fell out of the hospitality market and every message we received was from a guest cancelling an upcoming trip. In the matter of a week, nightly revenues for our clients plummeted 90% before leveling off to 50% for the rest of the year.

We experienced frustration, fear, and more than a few tears as we mourned family and friends struggling with the illness. Over the course of the pandemic, Ensourced continued to provide high-quality, impeccably clean experiences for happy guests. We stepped up our cleaning protocols and followed Airbnb’s recommendations for gaps between reservations to protect guests and cleaners.

Pandemic Priorities

Thing is, while juggling high guest expectations and host financial concerns, we’d managed to lose sight of our own goals. The experiences we had over the course of the year caused us to reconsider our personal life aspirations. More clearly than ever before, we began to recognize the inevitability, and good fortune, of an onward marching clock.

In that spirit, we’ve been presented with an opportunity to relocate overseas which is truly inspiring for these two former military brats who first met in Japan. PCSing with no government support? Next. Level.

We know there is a certain unavoidable importance of physical presence when managing rental properties, so we knew that a move this big would require a significant change if we wanted to maintain quality while ensuring guest and host satisfaction.

Ensourced & Habitate

We searched the marketplace to find another agency who would be able to work effectively with our hosts. It was important that they take a similar management approach towards guests too. With that in mind we are proud to announce that our friends at Habitate Property Management will provide ongoing property management for Ensourced clients, if they opt-in.

We are excited to re-imagine the services we can offer to support Airbnb hosts while creating happy guest memories and look forward to sharing those with you.

Portland’s Short-Term Rental (ASTR) Guidelines

The City of Portland and Airbnb worked very hard this year to pass a set of guidelines that would allow hosts to operate legally in the city. Prior to 2014, it was technically illegal in Portland to offer rooms for rent for less than 30 days. Hosts doing so risked being shut down by a […]
