Winterization Tips

posted on October 26, 2017 by Maylene

Welcome (again) to Portland in the Fall. This is one of our favorite times of the year with a return to hoodies and sweaters, fun seasonal menus and tasty beverages, pumpkin spice everything, lots more board games and movies, leaves changing colors, overflowing gutters and street drains, not to mention muddy shoes and umbrellas!

There are a few things you can do to make your hosting experience this fall and winter the best in can be.

Gut Check
Take time to check the gutters and downspouts and clear them of debris so you don’t have problems with water in the unit.

Clear the Air
Especially because of the impact of nearby Eagle Creek fire, now is a great time to change your furnace filter. We have noted significant build-up on the ones we’ve already changed out and definitely recommend taking a look at them as we head into colder temperatures.

Make Way
Watch for fallen debris and clear the street drains to make parking and walking easy for your guests. Consider buying salt or a snow shovel to have on-hand for our potential snowy season so you can treat walkways and ensure a safe pathway for your guests.

Thoughtful Touches
Consider offering a few umbrellas or extra blankets for guest comfort during the upcoming cold and rainy season. Many of our visitors are from warmer climates and they appreciate the extra thoughtful touches that make their stay that much better.

Luckily, the City of Portland created the Type A ASTR Permit Application Checklist, an excellent tool for making sure you remember to cross all your t’s and […]

Airbnb Case Study: Tiny House

Several years ago, Ensourced was approached by a couple who were wrapping up the build-out of an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in their backyard. At the time they were deciding between offering it as traditional, long-term rental or listing it on a short-term rental platform. The following Airbnb case study describes how we got started […]

Portland Accessory Short-Term Rental Permits

Complying with Portland’s Short-Term Rental Law

In September 2014, Portland’s City Council passed a resolution to legalize the use of space in one’s home for short-term rentals and defined the steps necessary for a homeowner to remain in compliance while operating a short-term rental unit. However, regulations can be confusing and the process daunting, and according to the Willamette Weekly, as […]
